Innovation and Science Australia (ISA) has released its report to the government, Australia 2030: Prosperity through Innovation – a plan for Australia to thrive in the global innovation race. The ISA Board was tasked by the government to produce a strategic plan to advise policy makers on how to accelerate innovation, science and research and optimise Australia's innovation system out to 2030.
The Plan is a roadmap for national action and cultural change to ensure Australia become a top-tier innovation nation by 2030.
Unsurprisingly, the report claims that looking towards 2030, innovation will be integral to the expansion of Australia's economy, keeping our workforce strong and addressing many of the societal challenges that the 21stcentury brings. The Plan makes 30 recommendations for governments to help achieve this goal and has identified five urgent imperatives for action across the innovation system in Australia, all of which is viable.
Having said that, the case studies referenced in the report fail to inform the reader of the amount of government money that has been expended in the form of grants to achieve the outcomes referenced.
